here is some facts! |
Creepy facts about snakes:
1. Snakes are able to consume their pray whole. Yep, all down in one gulp. They are capable of eating prey up to three times larger than the diameter of their head. This is all made possible by the snakes unique ability to separate their lower jaw from their upper jaw, this allows them to increase the size of prey they can fit in their mouth. 2. If you thought being swallowed whole was bad enough, then this fact will blow your mind. Snakes teeth actually face rearward in their mouth, this is to stop their prey from escaping back out of their mouth. Tough right! 3. Most people know that snakes hunt at night. But did you know that after one good sized meal, a snake can last for up to one year. Yes that’s right, up to one year! 4. There are over 3000 species of snakes. There is up to one species of snake in ever continent apart from Antarctica. This is mainly because none of the types of snakes are able to survive in that harsh environment. 5. Rhabdophis tigrinus also known as Tiger Keelback. This is one hell of a viscous snake. Unlike a cobra, this Chinese snake is not venomous at all if it bites you, which seems quite reassuring. But, it does carry two glands in its throat that are brimming with poison. These nuchal glands release toxins called “bufadienolides,” which attack the heart and make breathing difficult. However the keelback can’t actually produce poison, so where does it get it from? Well snakes love to snack on toads, certain toads hold very poisonous chemicals in their glands. This is where the keelback gets its toxic qualities from, so watch out. |
